We all know how unpleasant excessive stress can be. We also know the feeling of sickness in our stomach before an important performance, and the intense 'fight-or-flight' reaction we get when we face frustration after frustration.

Too much stress brings about chemical imbalance that can lead to or cause a heart attack. Managing your anger and attitude is significant to the health of your heart and general well being and relaxing effectively can help you manage that debilitating stress.

Indeed, stress can be beneficial in some levels but when it comes to excessive stress that tires out your mind and body, you really need to find some ways to manage it. Here are some known relaxation techniques for stress to help you attain calmness of the mind and relaxation for the body.

Some of the most commonly used relaxation techniques:

Music Therapy
Regular Exercise to relax the muscle and help blood regulation
Yoga
Relaxation Hypnosis
Massage Acupuncture
Meditation

Relaxation techniques work on the idea that you can't be relaxed and uptight at the same time. Relaxation exercises help reduce anxiety and stress. Relaxation training can help you to control your body's reaction to stress.

Meditation. Meditation has been an old practice in calming the mind. Although it has been connected with religious traditions, meditation has also become an effective way to combat stress and has been a technique to relax the mind and the body.

Relax your facial muscles completely. Focus on your face, and you will immediately realize how tense your facial muscles are. Gently tell these muscles to let go of all the stress and tension; and they will relax immediately.

Hypnosis relaxation techniques are used to relieve stress. These have been widely used to treat insomnia, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other stress-related diseases. In fact, these techniques have also been used during childbirth for less pain.

Relaxing the body will go a long way to improving your physical condition, however, the most effective relaxation techniques should combine the relaxing of the body and the mind. You should shut out any stressful thoughts about work or home.

Deep Breathing:One of the stress relaxation techniques you can start with is that of deep breathing exercises. The key to this technique is to learn to breathe from your abdomen so that you get oxygen into the deep recesses of your lungs. Sit comfortably, with one hand placed on your chest and the other on your stomach. Breathe in through your nose.

Quiet ears relaxation technique: In this relaxation technique, what you will be doing is to lie down and allow your body to physically relax. Once you are in a relaxed state, close your eyes, place your hands behind your head and put your thumbs behind your ears so as to close the ear canal.

Muscle relaxation: The most damaging effect of stress on athletes is that it causes the muscles to contract and the breathing to slow down. This causes the hear rate to increase and a lot if energy is consumed.

The body and mind are very closely related and this means that there are a number of exercises that can be adopted that will not only improve our physical well being but act as excellent relaxation techniques.
