Combination Skin Care

By katie parkar at 2010-02-26 00:00:02
Skin that is oily in some parts but dry or normal in others is considered as combination skin. On most days, your skin will probably feel normal or dry on most of your face and the oily part will be concentrated in the T-zone, the area across your forehead and down your nose and chin.

When you are trying to determine the kind of skin you have to help you choose the kind of products you can use, like those acne care natural skin type products, you will need to consider the purposes of the products you are planning to use.

The find out if you have combination skin, you can take a simple "tissue test". Put a piece of tissue over your nose, forehead and chin and if it sticks and picks up translucent oil, this part of your face is oily. Then try to stick the tissue to your cheeks and if it doesn't stick or pick up oil, this part of your face is dry.

The reason for your combination skin is that the oil producing glands are generating too much oil. However, dry skin occurs for three reasons: age, environment and the intracellular matrix break down.

You can tell if you've got combination skin by simply looking at your skin. Areas of the skin that look shiny tend to have a fair amount of blackheads and pimples.

You need to aid your skin in balancing from the inside out. The best way to do this is to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. It's a tired statement, but still the truth. Healthy, hydrated skin has an easier time balancing and repairing.

Even though it is one of the easier skin types to care for, it is always beneficial to use the best skin care you can afford. Avoid over the counter products. These most often contain oodles of petroleum derived ingredients, synthetic fragrance and color, and usually too little of any active ingredient to make a difference.

Water also helps in the natural moisturizing of our face. It also eliminates toxins that make the skin unhealthy looking. For moisturizers sold in the market, we should still choose the right one for our skin. Best use oil-free moisturizer so your oily facial condition will not be aggravated.

The most important thing to do for your face is cleansing. Look for products for use on your skin type and cleanse twice a day. Always use extra care to have clean skin when you go to bed. Moisturize the dry parts of your face, paying extra care to flaky areas. Try to keep moisturizer off oily patches.

Oily skin may occur around the cheeks and nose while the forehead may be dry and flaky.  Individuals with combination skin should consider using organic products that are hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic so as to limit their chances of breaking out in whiteheads and pimples in these trouble areas.

Facial masks give you an extra boost to combat any concerns you might have for your skin. Just remember not to keep your mask on for more than 15 minutes because you could actually burn your skin. All masks should not be applied on the eyes and should be washed off with a warm face cloth.

The most important ingredient to any skin care regime, though, is consistency. Use your cleanser and moisturizer day and night, the microdermabrasion twice a week and the anti-aging sunscreen every morning. If you do, you will still have a beautiful, luminescent complexion twenty or thirty years down the road.
